New technical note: Tyre types and sizes for the Jaguar XJS and XJ saloon

We often get asked which modern tyres are best for the Jaguar XJS and XJ saloon, so we’ve written a new technical note on the subject for our website.

ten spoke wheel

Many XJS owners try very hard to source the tyres originally specified by Jaguar in the handbook, however, in our experience, we find that fitting a modern equivalent can greatly improve the handling. No need to pay over the odds for big name brands either! Find out more about our recommendations here:

    Hi
I was hoping you could help in recommending new modern tyres.
I have a 1984 3.6 XJ-SC which currently has Pirelli P4000s 215/70 R15 97V which are no longer available. I have asked a number of local tyre centres who steer me towards vintage/classic car tyres which are very expensive.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    John

Damn – I thought my article answered that sort of question! 🙂 We recommend – and fit to all our restored cars – Falken ZE 225 60 15 tyres which are technically very good, and are not expensive. If you want a more well-known brand then Continental Premium Contact 2 is a decent tyre in this size. The slight reduction in tyre width is more than made up for in better adhesion and contact patch.
