My lovely, freshly-polished and ceramic-coated 3.6 Auto was defeated by a lake on the A4 the other night. Though I was taking care, the bow wave managed to reach the air intake and flooded the engine with water.
Seeking the AA is, of course, hopeless. No answer on the phone, but one has to listen to endless, useless advice with no one able just to log the event and give me an expected wait time. 4th Emergency Service? Pah! Watched the water slowly coming in, over the floor pans and my ankles. Decided to bail out and stepped into literally knee-deep water. Fortunately not far from home and Mrs K collected me. Once the car was recovered and back at home there was no spark and no fuelling. Sure enough, the engine computer low down in the passenger footwell was half-full of water. Dried, cleaned and heated but still no-go. Fresh unit from Simply Performance (https://www.simplyperformance.com/) fixed it and away she went, apparently none the worse for her ducking, other than the need for some long sessions with a wet-vac and a de-humidifier. Lesson to be learnt: Go super-slow through puddles in these low-engined cars…
